AMCD Commends UN Secretary General for Stance on Hezbollah in Southern Lebanon

United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres

WASHINGTON, DC, USA, November 30, 2019 / — The American Mideast Coalition for Democracy commends United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres for boldly calling for the Lebanese government to disarm Hezbollah in Southern Lebanon. A new UN report has confirmed that Hezbollah is preventing the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL) in southern Lebanon from operating in Hezbollah-controlled areas. In September, Hezbollah launched rockets against Israel’s defense forces in Northern Israel and the terror group is now preventing the UNIFIL from inspecting the area.

Said Secretary General Guterres, “I call upon the Government of Lebanon to take all actions necessary to ensure the full implementation of the relevant provisions of the Taif Accords and of resolutions 1559 (2004) and 1680 (2006), which require the disarmament of all armed groups in Lebanon so that there will be no weapons or authority in Lebanon other than those of the Lebanese State.”

“The Lebanese government must disarm Hezbollah or it will never regain full sovereignty over its territory,” said AMCD co-chair, John Hajjar. “Unfortunately, the government may not be strong enough to accomplish this alone and the UN peacekeeping force does not have the mandate to help with that mission. The UNIFIL was tasked with keeping the peace between Lebanon and Israel after the Lebanese government was supposed to have disarmed this terrorist organization. Unfortunately, Hezbollah never disarmed and so Iran now has control of vast swathes of Southern Lebanon.”

“No country can survive in the long-run with a foreign terrorist organization operating freely within its territory,” added AMCD co-chair, Tom Harb. “Iran has poured millions of dollars into Lebanon, employing Hezbollah fighters and supplying them with advanced weapons, including the rockets they fire into Israel. If Lebanon is to survive, its national armed forces must be strengthened while Iran’s forces are diminished.”

“We applaud President Trump for applying strong sanctions against Iran,” said AMCD vice-chair, Hossein Khorram. “The people of Iran are rising up in protest against their nation’s limited resources being lavished on terrorist groups in foreign countries. They’re tired of sacrificing for the mullah’s foreign adventures. They want to turn toward positive goals of national development and away from the mullahs’ obsession with destroying Israel.”

Forced Conversion that Violates Human Rights Becomes an International Problem

CESNUR from Italy and HRWF from Belgium hosted a seminar entitled “Intolerance and Discrimination Against New Religious Movements: An International Problem”.

MANILA, PHILIPPINES, November 30, 2019 / — On 19 November, Center for Studies on New Religions (CESNUR) from Italy and Human Rights Without Frontiers (HRWF) from Belgium hosted a seminar on human rights entitled “Intolerance and Discrimination Against New Religious Movements: An International Problem”.

This seminar, held in Seoul, South Korea, was devoted to the protection of the rights of religious minorities targeted by the majority groups, particularly in the context of anti-human rights situations such as the forced conversion that occurred in Korea.

Forced conversion, also known as “Deprogramming”, is a social issue that causes human rights violations by kidnapping and detaining the members of religious groups labeled as “cults” by their opponents in order to compel them to abandon their faith.

More than 80 participants including legal experts, journalists, and civil society representatives reviewed the current situation of forced conversion and discussed solutions to defend the freedom of faith and human rights that have become the norm of the international community.

Massimo Introvigne, Managing Director of CESNUR as well as an Italian sociologist, stressed that forced conversion is conducted through the mainstream by saying, “Korean deprogrammers are specialized pastors from the mainline churches, most of them Presbyterian."

"The protests that commemorate the victims from forced conversion were mentioned in the 2019 U.S. State Department Report on Religious Freedom, including violations of religious freedom in the year 2018. However, there were new cases of deprogramming even after their death," he criticized.

Regarding the multi-dimensional strategy to solve such phenomenon, Willy Fautré, Founder and Director of HRWF stated several suggestions; pointing at the responsibility of the leadership of the Presbyterian Church which tolerates, endorses, and maybe encourages such a practice; developing advocacy at the UN and in organs defending freedom of religion or belief; prosecuting those who encourage people to perpetrate an act of abduction and confinement.

In an open letter, signed by 15 international NGOs including CAP-LC and HRWF, to the South Korean President Moon Jae In on July 24th, it said, “South Korea may well be the last democratic country in the world where deprogramming is still tolerated” and asked the President to “investigate in-depth accusations of forcible deprogramming, put a stop to this obnoxious practice, and hold those responsible fully accountable.”

Meanwhile, South Korea was elected to serve the 5th term on the United Nations Human Rights Council on October 17th. South Korea’s mission to the UN said that it plans “to participate in the international efforts to respond to human rights crises around the world.” Participants urged the Korean government to respond to the issue of forced conversion which is still threatening the human rights of its people.

Drug education training offered by the Church of Scientology Kansas City

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, November 30, 2019 / — Anyone wishing to take action on the drug problem affecting Kansas City is invited to attend a Drug-Free World training session at the Church of Scientology on Saturday, November 30, at 18th and Grand Blvd in Kansas City, Missouri. Those interested in attending should call the Church at (816) 753-6590 for times and directions.

The training was organized based on the success of last week’s drug prevention open house and seminar at the Church, which focused on The Truth About Drugs, the interactive program of Foundation for a Drug-Free World, a nonprofit public benefit corporation that empowers youth and adults with factual information about drugs so they can make informed decisions and live drug-free.

“We held this open house to raise awareness about the need for action,” said Church Public Affairs Director Bennette Seaman.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), every dollar spent on effective school-based drug education and prevention programs could save $18. And that is not even factoring in the toll drugs take on the lives of abusers and their families.

The program last weekend featured a firefighter and former police officer who shared real-life stories about drug abuse. Those attending were engaged by the presentation and asked questions.

The Truth About Drugs program is one of the humanitarian initiatives the Church of Scientology supports.

“The program is set up to provide the facts because when people learn the truth about drugs, they can make their own self-determined decision to live drug-free,” said Seaman.

The Truth About Drugs materials and training on how to successfully use them is available at the Church of Scientology of Kansas City, at their new location, 1805 Grand Blvd, in Kansas City, Mo. Anyone wishing to learn more is invited to visit the Public Information Center in the Church lobby, which is open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Church of Scientology and Scientologists support Foundation for a Drug-Free World and make these materials available free of charge to anyone wishing to use them to handle the drug-abuse epidemic. After extensive social research, author, humanitarian and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard called drugs “the single most destructive element present in our current culture.”

Tourism In Nusa Penida, Bali's Closest Island Neighbor Continues To Grow

Nusa Penida Day Tour

Nusa Penida Day Tour

Nusa Penida day trip

nusa penida island tour

Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan day trips are full of adventures on land and sea.

These beautiful islands are smaller than Bali, and filled with stunning scenes of cliffs, white sand beaches, and jungle greenery, while the waters are famed spots for snorkeling and diving.”

— Elissa Doyle

DENPSAR, BALI, INDONESIA, November 30, 2019 / — More and more, tourists are finding that a Bali holiday isn’t complete without a day trip to the neighbouring island paradises of Nusa Penida, Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Lembongan. These beautiful islands are smaller than Bali, and filled with stunning scenes of cliffs, white sand beaches, and jungle greenery, while the waters are famed spots for snorkeling and diving.

The boats to Nusa Penida and Lembongan are only a 40-minute ride, departing from Sanur Harbor in the morning, and returning before sunset. Day trips and tours include sight-seeing at the famous “insta-spots” and lookout points, relaxing on secluded beaches, and snorkeling along the coral reefs.

Island Tours

The largest of the islands is Nusa Penida, with tours to the wondrous sites on land and sea. The landscape is diverse, and naturally rugged. Bring your camera and sense of adventure!

A Nusa Penida Day trip can be arranged for the eastern or western side of the island, depending on what you would like to see. When starting the east tour, the first stop is the cave-dwelling temple Goa Giri Putri. It is located entirely in an underground cave, hidden from the outside world. Once inside, it is a vast space to worship, among the stalactites and stalagmites. There is also Atuh Beach, on the southeast shores of Nusa Penida, a great spot for a beachside lunch. Continue with a stop at Raja Lima, also known as Thousand Islands viewpoint, and its spectacular panorama of the countless rock formations jutting out of the sea. And the day ends with photo ops at the Teletubbies Hill, where the rolling hillsides of greenery resemble the scenery of the chio clear pools for wading or snorkeling.

A nusa penida day tour of the western side of Nusa Penida would include the more popular or “insta-famous” locations. After arriving on the island, the tour would first stop at Angel’s Billabong, one of the most beautiful locations on Penida. Low tides lead to clear shallow pools for wading and snorkeling. This is followed by lunch on Broken Beach, and then the KellingKeling “T-Rex”, where the island’s cliffs resemble the claw of the giant dinosaur. Afterwards, spend the rest of the afternoon at Crystal Bay Beach, for sunning or snorkeling. Along the way to get there, you will pass lookout from Manta View point, where there are often Manta Rays playing in the waters below.

Smaller than Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan is a popular day trip excursion, and the entire island with its stunning landscape is easy to explore for a day. Driving tours include stops at yellow bridge or “Bridge of Love” to Nusa Ceningan, and various viewpoints through the small villages. A must-see location is Devil’s Tears, where crashing waves create rainbows and cascades of water, but the booming sound from the rocks, sounds as though the waves, or the ‘devil’, are crying from below. End your day at one of the bars along the Dream Beach or the harbour before boarding the ferry back to mainland Bali.

Snorkeling and Diving

Snorkeling and diving are two of the most popular activities for day tours to Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan. For most of the year, the waters are crystal clear and calm. The coral reefs are shallow and vibrantly colourful. The best locations for snorkeling and diving are on along the coral walls between the two islands.

The day trips usually include three stops throughout the morning, followed by lunch on the beach and sightseeing in the afternoon. Each spot is different with plenty of fish and scenery to delight snorkelers of all ages. For Lembongan, begin your day at the Wall Toya Pakeh, which is the coral wall along Nusa Penida. Later stops include the Giant Trevally feeding spot and along the shores of the mangroves of Lembongan.

A snorkeling tour of Nusa Penida has opportunities for incredible, unforgettable experiences. The first of them being the famous Manta Bay, where you will be up-close-and-personal with the manta rays who can span over 5m wide! These playful gentle giants don’t shy away from visitors, as they swiftly dart around the waters. Gamat Bay is a hidden spot, with shallow shelf less than 8m below the surface, where schools of fish and the occasional sea turtle are common sights. Crystal Bay is off the shores of one of Penida’s most popular beaches, a popular spot for families.

One thing that all travelers should remember is that while Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembogan are filled with wondrous sites on both land and sea, they are far less developed than Bali. The terrain is rugged, trails aren’t groomed, and the roads are bumpy and windy. The tides and swells can make waters rough and unsafe during certain times of the year. It is highly recommended to hire a guide, like those with Bali Tours and More, with drivers who know the island well. These islands are naturally beautiful, so please enjoy and take many photos! But do so with caution and respect to the locals and environment.

The Herzliya airport ceremony celebrated the renaming of the airport named after the late Lt. Col. Modi (Mordechai) Alon & the commemoration of 101st Squadron.

LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, November 29, 2019 / — Mike Flint, Founder of Producer and Management Entertainment Group (PMEG) and Producer of the “Angels in the Sky,” limited series, (co-produced by Mark Damon) attended a once-in-a-lifetime commemoration event:

The Herzliya airport ceremony celebrated the renaming of the airport to be named after the late Lt. Col. Modi (Mordechai) Alon and the commemoration of 101st Squadron. (The very same squadron Mike Flint was a member of.) The ceremony honored the squadron’s activities and the MACHAL fighters in the field during the War of Independence. The road to the airport will now be named MACHAL. (Stands for Volunteers from Overseas.)

“This is quite an honor the MACHALniks aviators deserve,” praises Mike Flint, “and will unlikely ever happen again.” The Mayor will be presenting a plaque to those involved, and the event was held on Friday, November 15, 2019.

10:30-11:00 – Gathering
11:00 – Opening ceremony with the 101 Squadron salute flyover
12:00 – Estimated ceremony conclusion

The Air Force entertainment group performed in the ceremony and there were speeches from Commander of the Air Force Major General Amikam Norkin, President of the Air Force Foundation Major General (Res.) Gideon Shefer (Shporer), Airport Authority Director Yaakov Ganot, and Mayor of Herzliya Moshe Badlon. Mike Flint will also be giving the mayor a proclamation from the City of Beverly Hills.

As of now, Israel has two airports; Ben Gurion International Airport, named after Prime Minister David Ben Gurion, and Ilan Ramon airport, named after Israel's first astronaut who was killed on the fatal mission of shuttle Columbia. Now, this is the 3rd airport that honors the sacrifices of those that came before us.

Mordechai "Modi" Alon was an Israeli fighter pilot who, with the formation of the Israeli Air Force in May 1948, assumed command of its first fighter squadron and participated in the IAF's first combat sortie on May 29, 1948. On June 3rd he scored the IAF's very first aerial victories, downing a pair of Royal Egyptian Air Force C-47s over Tel-Aviv. He was killed when his plane encountered trouble lowering landing gear and consequently crashed.

Meanwhile, Micthell Flint, Producer Mike Flint father, set up a brave and humane example when he volunteered to serve in the fledgling Israel Air Force of 1948 and thus helped to win Israel’s independence.

“I think our family should all join in commemorating these sacrifices and contribute a significant sum to honor them as part of the renaming of the Herzlyia airport.” concludes Nurit Greenger of the Jerusalem Post.
