MDC invites new squirrel hunters to Field to Fork program in Meadville on Sept. 26

ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) invites novice squirrel hunters to a free Field to Fork clinic on squirrel hunting at Fountain Grove Conservation Area in Meadville on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants will be paired with an experienced mentor to go on a squirrel hunt of their own. They will then learn how to clean and prepare a harvested squirrel for eating. 

The clinic is for participants ages 11 and older. Hunters 16 years of age and older must be hunter-education certified and possess a valid small game hunting permit or proof of exemption.

Squirrel hunting is limited to the eastern gray squirrel and the fox squirrel with the hunting season running through Feb. 15, 2027. Hunters are allowed to harvest 10 squirrels per day with a possession limit of 20 squirrels. There are various permitted methods for hunting squirrel in the Show-Me State.
